Why is my pontiac stalling at any given moment? could it be the icm?

Stalling while driving and starts after a whle, my 02 firebird has me baffled!...runs smooth, no hesitating or loss of power. it just dies at times and starts later...i doubt its the fuel pump, correct me if im wrong but i thought when pumps go bad they're out for good without warning...please help...
