If i have a regression and I find that is not stable does this affect cointegration and why?

I have a regression and i find that the regression results are not stable (I find that by using dummy variables). Does this make it more diffucult to find a cointegrating relationship? How the instability affects the regression coefficients and hence conclusions about cointegration?
