feeding after biopsy with a milk fistula?
I had a core open biopsy done last Monday the 8th. My incision was healing well, with no milk leakage. Pretty sore, but bruised a lot and getting better. Have kept pressure dressings on and not gotten wet at all. Today, I went swimming for about an hour. After I took off my top to change, my incision started leaking yellowish tinged milk!! I have a really hard lump under the skin (which I ume is a milk fistula), and it would have just eventually dried up inside. But, now I am leaking this yellowish milky substance continuously. The surgeon says wean the baby. The Lactation consultant says keep nursing, and more often on that side. Anyone with any ideas or knowledge in this area to help me? I don't want to wean him at all. He is a year today, and I plan on nursing a full 2 years at least. Can I continue to nurse with a fistula as long as there is no infection? How do I know when something may warrant a visit to the doctor? Obviously a fever or redness or streaks on the -but an more subtle signs I should look for? I need help-please someone with some kind of experience, tell me what you know or where I can go to find it! I have searched the web over and found conflicting things from doctors and lactation consultants! Need some REAL advice, maybe from someone who has done this?? Thank you and God Bless~Taunya
